Head Coach and Camp Director

Jamaal Jackson is beginning his third season at the helm of the Kentucky State University Men’s Basketball Program.

Jackson, a KSU graduate, started his coaching career at KSU during a memorable 2000-2001 season as Student Assistant Coach when the Thorobreds won the 2001 SIAC Tournament Championship and claimed a berth in the NCAA National Tournament. He later became a full-time assistant with KSU from 2004-2008.
Jackson recently served as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Bluefield State College in West Virginia. While at Bluefield State, Jackson coached one member of the WVIAC All-Conference team, three members of the ICAA All-Conference team, one All-ECAC Team member and two Division II All-American Team members.

Following his year as Interim Head Coach, Jackson increased the previous season's win total during each of his years as Bluefield State College's Head Coach before the 2015-16 season. Bluefield State finished the 2014-15 season with their highest win total since the 1995-96 season. Jackson's team also ranked first nationally in fewest turnovers during the 2014-15 season.

Before arriving in Bluefield, Jackson served three seasons as an assistant coach at Stillman College before being promoted to the position of associate head coach in the summer of 2011. While at Stillman, Jackson helped guide the program to its first-ever national Top 25 ranking, as well as a 2011 NCAA Tournament appearance, where they advanced to the round of 16. He also served as an intern with The Ohio State University Men's Basketball Program as they advance to the 1999 NCAA Final Four.

The 2018-19 season will be Shaun Smith's third at Kentucky State University.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Bluefield State College under Jackson from 2014-16. In his first season at BSC, the Big Blues finished with the highest win total since the 1995-96 season and ranked first nationally in the fewest turnovers allowed. Smith oversaw 2015-16 ECAC Freshman of the Year Chas Harvey and DII All-American Mark Durgan. Before his time at BSC, Smith spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach at Columbus State Community College.

Prior to stepping into the college coaching ranks, Smith spent time with AAU squads including Ohio Hoopsters (16 & 17U) in 2013 and All-Ohio Red (17U) in 2008.

Before his coaching career, Smith was a four-year letterman from 2000-2004 at Ohio State University playing under Jim O’Brian.
